Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/21/2003

Number: 1

We
live in the south central part of Kansas-Winfield, Kansas which is 50 mi SE
of Wichita, on a farm 7 miles Se of Winfield. Sunday morning when we got up
and looked out our picture window, our yard was covered with Monarchs and
they were flying all over the place, up into the trees, around the
trees--they were everywhere, but what was unique was how they would all land
on the limbs and cover the trees like leaves. The way they hung looked like
brown leaves on the tree. They hung around all day Sunday (and it was
really rainy in the morning). When we got up this morning, they were gone.
There were some who saw more than usual in town, but I didn't hear anyone
else talking of the thousands that we saw. What a unique experience. I
took three rolls of film.
