Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/21/2003

Number: 1

Thirty five miles east of my Kansas City home, in Blue Springs, MO is Burr Oak Woods Conservation Nature Center where I am a volunteer. On Sunday, Sept 21, I assisted there in a catch, tag, release Monarch Butterfly program for the public. In 3 hours we caught over 125 Monarchs in our Native Prairie, sexed them, tagged them, then released them. It was amazing to see and hear the excitement of the participants. One lady carried a child, captured three Monarchs at once and was taking pictures at the same time. It was a great experience.
