We are raising 100 or so monarch larvae and after 2 weeks we have ~50 pupae and the rest are 5th instars. We measured the mass of the larvae the day before they pupated and found that their mean mass was 1.43g. We also determined the median and mode of groups of 10 larvae. They should be big butterflies. We predict that the adults will be just a little bit smaller in mass because they loose their larval skin and then their outer skin of the pupae.
