In the narrow strip between Interstate Highway 20 and the north service road, 3 species of milkweed are growing among the other wildflowers, grasses and weeds. "Asclepias pumila" (shortwhorled milkweed) and "Asclepias brackystephana" (red milkweed) plus another wide-leafed plant we didn’t identify. In about 100 yards we found 11 caterpillars ranging from ½ inch to 2 inches in length. We also found 3 dead caterpillars. There were many ants in the area. Some of the plants were heavily infested with aphids and fuzzy white caterpillars we thought to be moths but didn’t ID. We did not find any eggs or see any butterflies.
