Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/28/2003

Number: 1

While at my brother house on Sep.27,2003 at a family gathering we all saw anywhere from 200-300 monarch butterflies flying in a south direction. After pointing out the great number of them we all decided that it was the first time that we had ever saw that many at one given time. A teacher that is in the family was there and she said that she did not know that they traveled south, but we had came to agree that something was up. When I got up this morning I got onto the internet to search hoping to find out.. So I'm very glad that we all were not losing our minds and that we all had the chance to witness this great event. All of the children that was there thought that it was great. The butterflies moved at such a slow but still a graceful way, sometimes gliding in what little breeze there was. Now that we know that the travle through our part of the country maybe next year we will also be watching for the great migration of the monarch butterflies.
