My goals include teaching my students about the life cycle and migration habits of the Monarch butterfly along with understanding the plight Monarchs face as fields of Milkweed vanish each year, eliminating their food source. This year's students have already learned about the Monarch's life cycle and are eagerly waiting for their arrival. They will next be studying animal migrations. I will have them use the available migration map to chart and graph the various distances Monarchs travel from the 5 earliest and farthest points in the U.S. identified by the stars on the map. We have a school butterfly garden and have planted Milkweed to nourish the Monarchs along their journey south to Mexico.
