One of the monarchs I got up close to, a large
female, 54 to 55 mm, fair amount of fade, 2+, surprisingly
large with fair amount of fade, take to be the first truly
migrating monarch we've seen! She left the area headed almost due
SSW at 5:15 with the wind from the ENE.
Are these sightings of large numbers of clustering and
roosting monarchs in the upper half of the state a week
early or is it just our imagination? We were expecting
them about this time next week and more of a gentle stream
starting this week?
