Saturday September 27th- 2 students (Chris and Ryan) from my class spotted and counted about 67 monarchs flying southwest within about 1 hour time span. This was during a parade in DeSoto Missouri (Bicentennial). Some appeared to be mating.
Sunday September 28th-I observed about 2 dozen monarchs within a 2 hour time span headed south. This is while I was jogging outdoors at about 2:30 PM. It was sunny and warm but brezzy. This weekend, as we have observed, was the last weekend in the St. Louis area for remaining warmer low temps at night. After this weekend, the lows dropped significantly. Prior to this weekend, we had not observed significant numbers of monarchs.
