Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/16/2003

Number: 1

This fall has been amazing for monarch sightings in our area. During the week of October6-10 monarchs were passing through our woods at a rate of more than 30 per minute. This week we are only seeing the occasional straggler. However last weekend a group of us was driving north on US 281 from Marble Falls to Hico and Monarchs were approaching us at about 5 per second! We stopped just north of Evant, TX and saw what we thought was a flock of blackbirds high in the sky. When we put our binoculars on the "birds" they turned out to be hundreds of monarchs.
