Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/20/2003

Number: 1

I drove out Lake Avenue in Lacombe, La, a long single lane gravel road into the marshlands out to a point looking south across the water at the end of the road. Just at the last block of pavement before the road turns narrow and to gravel, there is a road off to the right called Mildred Drive. Along this little lane, which borders on the Bayou Savage Wildlife Management Area and Goose Point Marshlands Area is growing goldenrod, asters, eupatorium (wild ageratum), and some other flowers including a very tall pink penstimon, which they were not nectaring on, and loads of hemp vine flowers, some orange lantana, and some other small bright bluish purple flowers. Also, a yellow flower that I am not familiar with. I have photos of everything and most of the Monarchs I tagged. There were so many Monarchs along the lane that my hand was getting cramp from filling out the tag sheets. When I first beheld the Monarchs on Mildred Drive, they were in the little curve and coming down the hill
