Despite the poor showing (of monarchs - only 9 counted) the morning of St. Marks' Monarch Butterfly Festival (when some 2,500 - 3,000 human visitors were counted), held last Saturday 18 October, the first real pulse of migrants is now coming through Florida's Gulf Coast. Yesterday/Wednesday 22 October our counting/tagging team counted 417 on early morning roosts and tagged 251.
