I spent the day mostly in a vehicle driving first around town and then down to southeastern Mississippi on Highway 15, Highway 98, in the counties of Jones, George, and Perry over to a small hamlet called Leaksville to pick up some lumber.
The first Monarch I spotted this morning was in the quadrant of my mother's apartment building, looking around for nectar at the second floor level, around 10:50 a.m.. I observed Monarchs
flying in a migration direction virtually every 5 minutes until around 4:45 p.m. They were in all parts, on the eastern and western sides of Laurel, Ms, then when we headed south, they
were crossing the highways on a regular basis. For the most part they are flying at 30 to 50 feet, but occasionally would be at almost windshield height, so I was doing some ducking in the passenger seat, as I saw them, and then my driver caught on, and paid more attention. We didn't actually smash any, but still it was a hyper moment, trying to physically will them over the
