Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/26/2003

Number: 1

Yesterday in Novillo Canyon, just west of Victoria in Tamaulipas,
Mexico, there were thousands of monarchs roosting in the trees
overhanging the canyon. It was cold and rainy, so the bugs were mostly
hanging in the trees. Some of the branches were orange w/monarchs. We were there for a
few hours from about 9 am to 11:30, and at times there were clouds of
monarchs above us. We saw very few other butterfliers, but the monarchs
were great. This is the only time we have seen them in Novillo in these
numbers.
