November 3, 2003: Crossing Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge, northbound, 3:05 p.m. to 3:35 p.m. counted 154 migrational Monarchs.
Arrived at Sunset Point at 3:38 p.m. and tagged first Monarch at 4:15 p.m. Netted and tagged 25 Monarchs by 4:55 p.m.
All these Monarchs has been directionally flying, even when moving from nectar source to nectar source. The weather on the Sunday was perfect. Beautiful sunset. The weather on Monday was another perfect day.
Nectar plants included asters, (preferred), lantana, goldenrod. The gulf frits pair up on the Monarchs and run them away from the lantana bushes. Also lots of blue eupatatoriums, but not a favorite with the Monarchs at this time.
