My fourth graders at Armuchee Elem. in Rome, GA have continued to expand their "Caterpillar Cafe" by planting parsley, fennel, and dill for Black Swallowtails, Passion Flower Vine for Gulf Fritillaries, and many more milkweed plants for our beloved Monarchs! We were simply crawling with caterpillars in September and October and have tagged and released abou 25 healthy Monarchs. We also shared out caterpillars with other classes so that more students could experience the excitement of watching their life cycle. My students found more host plants near the playgroud and often spent their recess collecting and observing more caterpillars. It has been an exciting fall and we look forward to the Journey North this spring! In the meantime we are tracking our symbolic migration butterflies as they take our imaginations south of the border!
