We will continue to have monarchs here near the shore of Lavaca Bay, mid-coast of Texas, as long as we don't have much of a freeze. 12:00, clear and 70 degrees, two males and one female monarch visiting backyard wildscape. 2:00, just went out and checked the A. curassavica in the backyard, found eggs thru 5th instars. Continue to see monarchs flying around town, also 5 miles across the bay where there are only native wildflowers. Native milkweed over there was viable thru December. Last year we had our only two hard freezes the last week of February and the first week of March, set back the native milkweeds almost a month. If all goes well, we expect to see first remigrants returning from Mexico before March 15.
