Redwing blackbirds winter-over here in Quemado Valley [SW TX] on the banks of the Rio Grande. We did a quick winter bird survey this evening and observed some 200+ in mixed flocks raiding the seed feeders along the edge of a dense riparian area on the Cunningham Ranch. They were mixed with Great-tailed grackles and starlings. I suspect that there was at least one brown-headed cowbird as well. The pre-dusk cacophany of that many redwings in one tree is truly remarkable!
