The temperature had dipped to -14 degrees the night before. We filled a shallow pan with warm water and brought it outside near our feeding station. By the time I had taken off my coat and returned to the window to watch, a robin was drinking and preening his feathers in the warm water, enveloped in a cloud of stream.
