I was vacationing in Florida for a week, and was at Fairchild Gardens in the Miami area when I saw a lovely Monarch flitting back-and-forth in their butterfly garden area. It was such a joy to see! Granted, I don't know if it overwintered there, was a release, or a migrant, but still, it was unexpected. (I double-checked to make sure it wasn't actually a Viceroy...it wasn't.) I was quite excited, especially when I knew upon returning to Virginia I could report it here at Journey North!
