This week we had eight Monarchs emerge from their chrysalises! We brought them inside several weeks ago while they were in the 4th instar, due to a dip into freezing temperatures. Four were males and four were females. All healthy and no incidence of tachonid flies. The colder weather has obviously given us a break from the our bad luck with parasitized caterpillars. We were glad to have a break in the rain and cold weather for a day or two last week so that we could release the butterflies. they seemed very anxious to fly!
