After seven days of cold, wet conditions, second half of February has started warm and sunny. We have had flights of Snow and White-fronted geese heading north since the wind started turning around to the east yesterday morning. We heard
them at six this morning heading north and at six this evening we are still seeing a few "Vees" heading north right over the
the house and across Lavaca Bay. The Red-winged Blackbirds are
getting more distinct color to their chevrons. Hummingbirds
that overwintered along the coast and even inland are being reported. A licensed bander for TPWD that does his banding about 15 miles west of Victoria reported banding over 110 hummingbirds since the first of November, over 60 several times!
Most of our drive to school, starting at 6:50 am, is now in sunshine and we arrive home at 5:00 with an hour of sun ... spring is two weeks away for us, almost time to go milkweed hunting. Sun's rays are getting very hot! Several species of birds, including na
