I *thought* I heard my favorite sound of spring this morning on the way to get the newspaper--a far-off song of the first red-wingeded blackbird.

I waited a few minutes and, sure enough, a flock landed on a tree at the far end of the meadow, and noisly repeated alarm calls from the crown of the tree.
