An answer to Challenge Question #8 (12/5/03)...The Red Emperor tulips planted by first graders from School #20 emerged on March 1 at the Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center. It has been a cold, snowy winter and until this past weekend snow had covered the ground. We all thought the tulips would emerge around St. Patrick's Day again. What a surprise to see the tiny red shoots appear as the snow disappeared. We will compare our data to the 6 school sites in Albany. Will there still be tulips blooming for the Tulip Festival May 7-9? Time will tell!
