Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 02/15/2004

Number: 1

On 2/15/04 there was one male Redwing Blackbird. Two days later an entire migration came in, males and females. They usually nest around the Nueces River but this group shows no sign of making nests yet--just waiting for a feeder to be filled. The Brown-headed Cow Birds are travelling with the Redwings and are unwelcome guests. All in all, I think there are about 40 Redwing Blackbirds and an equal number of Cowbirds.
