Birds are definately migrating. I watched a herd of birds march from the west edge of our big front lawn to the east perimeter today. It was a mix of grackles, brown headed cowbirds and arount 40 male redwinged blackbirds. They marched in a solid mass, picking at the soggy turf. The redwings bright wing patches are still drab. Our resident blackbird, KaChing, scolded from the pear tree, the roof top. the bird feeders, protecting his territory from the intruders. He has "owned" our yard for around 3 years now. He's been back nearly 2 weeks battling the chickadees, sparrows and finches at our feeders. The killdeers have been fluttering around the yard for nearly 4 days, dodging snow flurries.
