Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/06/2004

Number: 1

We were on the way to look for early, native milkweeds between the Texas mid-coast and San Antonio when we had a monarch fly by from south to north. This was about five miles from a pasture in northwestern DeWitt County that we annually check in late February and early March for milkweeds and monarchs. The monarch was moving rapidly just east of north with an almost calm wind between north and northwest at the time ... clear and 80 dF. We did find a good deal of the native milkweed, *Asclepias asperula*, with stems up to nine inches in the pasture.
