Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/07/2004

Number: 1

We have been seeing monarchs in Victoria and Port Lavaca all winter but the first very faded monarchs have begun to show up. We saw four monarchs in Victoria in twenty minutes on Saturday and saw over a dozen in Port Lavaca today. One of the coupled pairs we saw this afternoon about 2:30 had a female that was of particular interest ... very faded and almost transparent when compared to the male that was pulling her thru the air. This "very faded and transparent" look is what we would expect to see from monarchs remigrating from Mexico. Some faded monarchs from years past: http://asclepias.homestead.com/fade02b.html
