Robin (First SEEN)

Date: 03/08/2004

Number: 1

Four students in our class spotted robins on March 8. Our school is in an urban environment in the borough of Queens, which is part of New York City. We are located at the end of a subway line to Manhattan, with many buses stopping at the end of the block where the school is located. We also have a large commuter train line and repair yard three blocks away in the other direction. Two main roads that run the length of Long Island are within a block of our school in each direction. The area surrounding the school has single to 3 family homes with minimal surface not under concrete; apartments are scattered throughout the community. Our school is four stories high and has 1400 students, most of whom have families who have recently come to the United States, from South and Central America, and the Caribbean, and to a lesser degree, from Asia and Africa.
