Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 03/07/2004

Number: 1

We had spotted a Ruby-throated Hummingbird or two in backyard over the past few weeks, but just for a moment and they would be gone. But while driving along the streets on this side of town today counting monarchs, we saw two that were very busy working nectar sources. They each had their favorite plant and stuck to it. 80 dF, mostly clear, almost calm after light north wind the day before. There had been a good number of overwintering Rubies 45 miles inland between Victoria and Goliad, but we saw very few here along Lavaca Bay.
