Why would any winged creature dependent on wriggling worms would haunt such a bleak, freezing landscape. Snow, sleet and freezing rain make the gray brown landscape crunchy wasteland. Filling the feeders with stiffening fingers, I see robins slinking between the bushes along the house foundations and under my van. Since they arrived, this is their normal activity. They mutter a scolding croak as if I'm with holding spring's worms. You would think they would backtrack about 100 miles to Northern Indiana, which is usually 2 weeks ahead of our region. Their wings are free, no high gas prices for them! Must be the early bird gets the territory! While I admire their tenacity and pursuit of perpetuation, I'm glad I don't have to live from instinct as I scurry with my dancing pair of Dalmations in the door to warmth.
