Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/16/2004

Number: 1

The monarch seen was nectaring. Wind was calm, temp about 80 F and sky was clear. The monarch was weathered, not fresh. I have not seen any native milkweeds but there are "tropical milkweeds", Asclepias curravasica in my garden and others which are showing new growth. Mercer Arboretum in Houston has several native milkweeds. The only one that is showing significant growth at this time is Asclepias incarnata, which is not common in the area.
