Today the robins sounded rather off key and rusty throated, like a choir practice. Granted the cold, snow flurries were nothing to sing about. The most vocal of the robins, flew about the yard followed by a pair of grackles and KaChing, the red winged blackbird. Their pursuit seemed quite dedicated to his every change in direction. Perhaps they think he knows the best sources for breakfast? Some of my crabapples still bear withered dry fruit, which is all I think the robins can look forward to today. We've allowed autumn olive and briar roses to self seed on our property - both of which bear fruit birds can use. At noon, the birds are rather quiet, weather is still quite cold with heavy gray clouds filling the sky.
