Monarch Egg (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/11/2004

Number: 1

I was out at SOKA University in the Santa Monica Mountains last week, apprx.03/11/04,
(corner of Malibu Canyon and Mulholland Highway), and there was a
female laying eggs on the Narrowleaf Milkweed that was barely coming
out of dormancy. If she found anything that looked like a leaf
sticking up, she laid an egg. I sure hope the plants grow faster than
the cats! (I almost rescued some eggs but then I remembered that mine
aren't much better, having been chewed down so many times that many
of the milkweeds just gave up the ghost last fall...)

BTW, The SOKA botanic garden is small, but there's always a few
monarchs about as there's lots of milkweed around.
