The monarch was flying around the bushes in the yard across the street. It
appeared to be looking for nectar. I could not see the condition of the
wings but since Monarchs do not overwinter in this area, I would say it was
a new generation. I rarely see Monarchs this early in Davis but we have
had record breaking temperatures for two weeks which has resulted in many
blossoms. The wind was blowing from the north so the butterfly was flying
against the wind to reach Davis from the warm coastal wintering sites.
