While on my friend and I were on our daily walk around 6:00 am I noticed what appeared at first to be pine needles forming a circle. It was a strange sight. It had rained most of the previous day and I thought the pattern of rainwater run off from the track was quite unusual. Stopping, I saw one of the sticks wriggle and then realized the formation was earthworms. They formed a circle more densely populated at the center. The circle extended the width of the 5 foot track. We came across two more of these formations and as darkness receded we realized the earthworms were traveling singlely all over the track. Is this usual? What does is happening?
