Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/28/2004

Number: 1

I saw a Monarch just outside my second floor balcony yesterday
afternoon. It was flying about 18 feet above the ground. We have water
around. There are lots of blooming Agarita and Verbena. Lots of wasps. There
was a large beautiful Swallowtail (Bright yellow and black) butterfly in my
freshly watered veggie garden at about 3pm yesterday (28th). It was on the
ground a long time sunning itself, I guess, and sipping moisture from the
ground it seemed. It was large and a perfectly beautiful specimen.
I have been outside a lot lately. The spring is the strongest I have seen in
seven years in Nameless Valley. The springs are flowing well and every plant
is thriving. The wild Black Cherry trees are bursting with vigor. I just
hope the rains continue and make this a spectacular prolific year.
