All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 04/04/2004

Number: 1

A walk through the woods was delightful - spring is on the way! Spring beauties, false rue anemone, a few yellow trout lilies, a few phlox divaricata and thousands of blood root covered the forest floor and small hill nearby. Trilliums are up about 4" with a very small bud at top and may-apples are just coming up - about 4-5 " tall. There were many other plants with their leaves just coming through. Came upon a huge nest of small limbs high in the crotch of a tree, from the loud screeching sounds flying overhead soon discovered it belonged to a very large red tailed hawk. Several turkey buzzards were overhead at one time in a different area - kept moving so I wouldn't look like dead meat!!
It is supposed to be down to 25* tonight, hope the Red Admiral butterfly I spotted yesterday in the pussy willow survives.
