Every fall our second grade classes participate in a Smithsonian Unit on Insects and Butterflies. Each class raises Monarchs and Painted Ladies. Two years ago our school enclosed our courtyard. So we developed it into a schoolwide science area with pond, plants and bleaches so that we can teach science lessons outdoors, too. We've planted a butterfly garden also.
> I'm taking a college computer class about communicating with others outside our district on a subject of our choosing. My teacher found this website and thought it fit in well with what we are studying. I want to get some students to visit our courtyard and look for the returning Monarchs and other butterflies. They will keep a daily journal. We won't be starting to after our spring break. Thanks, Kathleen Williams
