I had a pet male wood duck for about 4 mos. during the summer last year that someone had given me. They brought it over to our 2+acre lake and farm so it could go back "into the wild". It became a very spoiled wood duck, eating out of your hand, riding on your shoulder, and would fly out and land on my shoulder and ride in the lake with me in the paddle boat! He left last Thanksgiving and came back yesterday! He arrived with a pair of mallards and they spent most of the day eating and sunning. He wouldn't come to me, but was not a bit afraid either so I am sure it was him. He spent a lot of his time chasing off the male mallard, so I think he thinks the lady mallard is his. We have a wood duck box up by the lake, so I hope he can find a mate soon.!
