Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/20/2004

Number: 1

Went over in early to mid morning to Camp Robinson WDA. No one else there. Lovely partial cloud cover. Some very nice butterfly finds for Camp. First Dusted Skipper for there. Several Pepper and salts in the shade. The Common Roadside Skippers are emerging. I see more of these at Camp than anywhere else in Arkansas. Another pink infused Dogface (at Bell north). Also my year first Hoary Edges (new April record).

And the first Monarchs of the year for me in Arkansas. I don't know if others have been seeing them and just not saying. One was a roadkill. And 2 fresh and 2 worn at the Bell north levee that were enjoying vetch and buttercups. The year's first (and early) Viceroys were there too. And a lingering crop of Duskywings that were hypnotized by the buttercups.
