Tulips BLOOMED

Date: 04/20/2004

Number: 1

Tuesday morning, 4/20, our tulips were red and beautiful, but not open. We couldn't see the stamens and pistils. We measured the tallest, we counted the number nearly blooming and we waited. We noticed that the tulips we planted in October were just as ready to bloom as the ones we planted a month later in November. Even the tulips that the deer munched on were trying to produce blooms with what energy they had left.
We also noticed that the tulips planted on the south facing end of the playground were not as close to blooming as our official garden. There we were experimenting with planting at different depths 3 1/2 inches, 7 inches and 12 inches. The plants looked quite similar - except for the ones too close to the swings that had gotten a bit trampled.
By 3:00 when school was over, our official garden was in full bloom. It was a great and gorgeous end to the day.
Wednesday we used the digital camera to take absolutely wonderful pictures of the tulips.
