Finally, a Bloom! We had 2 "weak" looking tulips bloom today. They don't have the robust appearance our blooms in previous years have had...petals look smaller and narrower. Our new garden site has proved to be unhealthy for our bulbs. We planted 35 regular bulbs and 8 experiment bulbs (upside-down, etc.)As of today, only 13 bulbs have emerged, and three of those were experiment bulbs! Our plants are dying before they've grown even a few inches. One plant appeared to have two flower buds, but then it dried up and withered away. While students are sad, their comments reflect the planting protocol, "maybe this site is too shady...maybe the site is too inclined...maybe they were too wet this spring..."
