Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/22/2004

Number: 1

I was very surprised to see a Monarch this early in the year. It is usually much later, maybe July before we see them. I thought it must be one raised and released. Then I looked at the Journey North site and saw that there had been some other sightings, so sent mine in.
This Monarch was flying through the yard, but I could not see the condition of the wings. It had been a beautiful spring day, warm for April. There is no milkweed yet. I checked my garden at home and my garden at school and nothing has sprouted. It is up a few inches in New Jersey my friend told me Saturday.
Wish I could tell you more. I did go to Mexico in March with Bill Calvert and a group of teachers from NJ. Fantastic! Now I am waiting for our paper butterflies to return to my classroom from the Symbolic Migration.
