Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/23/2004

Number: 1

On Friday, April 23, an absolutely fresh and beautiful female monarch
stayed in my backyard meadow for over an hour, and was still there when
I had to leave for the airport. The butterfly landed on at least 12
different common milkweed plants, many of them more than once, and
seemed to be ovipositing on every plant. But when I searched I found
only two eggs. She never touched the butterfly weed plants close by the
common milkweed. The butterfly must have flown within 5 feet of me at
least 30 times. I think it was rewarding me for the new "Got Milkweed?"
sticker on my car!
