Tulips EMERGED

Date: 04/15/2004

Number: 1

Although we observed a few tulips blooming just before our Spring vacation, again the majority bloomed during the week we were not in school. This, coupled with rainy days last week limiting observations, led to major disappointment among the children when by today(5/3)all blooms were gone! Unfortunately, this is not the first time that the timing of our spring break and the blooming of the Red Emperor tulips just didn't work out. Next year we are considering planting a mixture of Red Emperors and other species (later blooming) so the full effect can be appreciated by our 2nd grade 'budding' scientists! Also, over 150 bulbs planted by previous 2nd graders never did bloom this year...our thinking is that when the landscapers 'weeded' the courtyard last summer that they pulled spent tulip leaves instead of weeds!!
