Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/09/2004

Number: 1

What a perfect gift for Mother's Day - Our first Monarch of the year! I have been raising Monarchs ( by the
hundreds sometimes) for more than 15 years. A neighbor has an extensive
garden about 10 feet from my dining room window where I spotted the monarch
and showed it to my family who have also been involved in working with
Monarchs. I couldn't get out in time to see if it was a male or a female.
The color was very fresh. The earliest I have seen a monarch before was May
11. Some years the students in my classes choose the first date Mrs. Jahn
sees a monarch to win a prize! Our season is at least a week ahead of
normal. I have common milkweed a foot tall but as yet no eggs on it.
