Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/18/2004

Number: 1

I should have reported negative results earlier. I just saw my first Monarch in NW AR, near Jasper, on 5/18. This was VERY fresh, and obviously not one that overwintered in Mexico. Milkweed is in bloom here now. It was on Purple Milkweed and appeared to be a male frombthe quick look I had.

Two other reports to the AR butterfly list serve in the past two days:

1) I live in the North Little Rock area and have lots of milkweed and no monarchs yet. Still looking. P. McDonald

2). We here in NE Arkansas (Jonesboro) are still waiting to see our first. At least one must have slipped through, however, as our milkweed plants, usually chewed down to the nub by this date, have a single few-day-old caterpillar on one of the plants. (this by N. Lavers).
