Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/16/2004

Number: 1

One fresh monarch (probably a male) seen flying in farmer's field with red clover blooming. On Cub Creek Road, SE foot of the mountain called Three Ridges in Nelson County, VA.

At home on Cat Rock Mountain, near above site, at 1500 feet altitude, still no adults, eggs or larvae seen in this garden yet this spring as of 29 May. Have patch of A. syriaca growing in garden plus many perennials in bloom. The plants are in full bud with some early blooming heads and are in excellent condition, partly because I removed several weevils from them.

Roseland, VA
