Bald Eagle

Date: 05/29/2004

Number: 1

Around 2:00 on Saturday May 29th, 2004 a mature Bald Eagle was sighted on the Rondout Creek under the train tressle crossing the creek in Rosendale NY. The creek runs next to RT 213 at this point where the eagle was seen diving down to the creek, grabbing a fish, and flying up to a tree next to the creek to eat. We observed the eagle for 15-20 minutes while he ate. When finished,
it flew up stream. The other observer has seen a Bald Eagle along this part of the creek several times. I'm completeing a NYS Bird Breeding Atlas Block which includes this area. As a result friends and neighbors have mentioned seeing a Bald Eagle in this area several times to me as well. This is the first time I was fortunate enough to see it. I am interested in knowing if it has been already reported and if there is a nest sighting. I have seen eagles here on the Rondout almost every winter for the past 4 years, but this is the first time one has been seen after the usual March migration to Canada
