I finally saw my first monarchs this year! - two at Volo Bog Natural Area,
in McHenry Co. IL and one at Illinois Beach State Park, near Zion, in Lake
Co. IL. All were on clear, sunny days, where Asclepias tuberosa was in
bloom, along with lots of budding Asclepias syriaca. Also saw a good amount
of Asclepias incarnata in bud at IBSP while walking the Dead River Trail
there.
Checked the milkweeds for eggs but didn't see any. Lot of predators tho! Do
daddy longlegs eat monarch eggs? It seemed there was one on almost every
plant I checked!
Still waiting for monarchs to find the plants in my neighborhood! :)
